    Key Points

    • World unveils AgentKit, a system that connects AI agents to verified human identities using Coinbase’s x402 protocol.
    • AgentKit bridges the gap between AI bots and real humans, building trust for platforms engaging in agentic commerce.

    • Currently in beta, World’s AgentKit will expand beyond biometric verification to include additional authentication methods.

    • The x402 protocol from Coinbase handles $30B in annual transactions, facilitating frictionless micropayments for AI agents.

Sam Altman’s World is taking a major step forward in AI identity verification by introducing AgentKit. Released on March 17, 2026, this developer toolkit merges World’s human verification platform, World ID, with the x402 protocol created by Coinbase.

Through this collaboration, AI agents can demonstrate they’re operated by verified humans, establishing credibility and trust for platforms that engage with autonomous systems.

The toolkit targets the expanding agentic commerce landscape, where AI agents increasingly handle activities from online shopping to email management. Identity verification remains the primary obstacle in this domain. Conventional systems frequently mark AI agent behavior as fraudulent. World’s AgentKit seeks to eliminate this problem by providing AI bots with cryptographic verification proving their connection to authenticated human users.

Combining World ID with the x402 Protocol from Coinbase

AgentKit’s foundation lies in merging World ID with Coinbase’s x402 protocol. The x402 framework enables “agentic payments,” supporting small transactions between AI agents and platforms through stablecoins. While payment systems solve the transaction mechanism, identity verification establishes participant legitimacy.

Erik Reppel, who leads engineering at Coinbase Developer Platform, highlighted the significance of this innovation, noting,

“This is a massive step toward a web where agents aren’t just seen as automated traffic, but as legitimate economic participants.”

Through confirming that real humans control AI agents, platforms gain confidence in autonomous systems, transitioning from blocking them to embracing their participation.

Through AgentKit, developers assign World ID credentials to their AI systems. This approach ensures AI agents operate with verified human backing while protecting user privacy. World employs zero-knowledge proof technology, allowing platforms to authenticate identities without exposing sensitive personal details—a critical feature for identity management in an AI-powered internet.

Addressing Identity Obstacles in Agentic Commerce

With AI agents assuming greater responsibilities in commercial activities, including reservation bookings and transaction processing, identity verification grows increasingly critical. Absent human verification, numerous platforms classify automated behavior as suspicious activity.

AgentKit addresses this challenge by permitting platforms to associate multiple AI systems with one authenticated human. This framework allows organizations to establish restrictions tied to the verified human, such as limiting agent actions within specific timeframes. The approach prevents misuse while supporting legitimate multi-agent operations.

Furthermore, AgentKit’s current reliance on Orb biometric verification represents only the initial phase. World intends to incorporate additional verification methods, including NFC-compatible passports and identification documents, broadening accessibility for diverse users and development teams.
