    TLDR

    • Three nations collaborate to combat approval phishing and retrieve stolen cryptocurrency.
    • Operation Atlantic focuses on fraudulent schemes exploiting wallet authorization vulnerabilities.
    • Canadian authorities implement transaction freezes and wallet security protocols.
    • American and British agencies employ real-time tracking to dismantle fraud networks.
    • Cryptocurrency fraud reached $14B in 2025, driving enhanced international cooperation.

Law enforcement agencies from Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom have initiated a collaborative effort to combat cryptocurrency wallet theft. Named Operation Atlantic, this initiative specifically addresses approval phishing attacks that deceive users into authorizing unauthorized wallet access. The coordinated response seeks to detect emerging threats, retrieve stolen digital assets, and minimize future financial losses.

The Ontario Securities Commission partners with the Ontario Provincial Police to spearhead Canada’s involvement. Their collaboration extends to the U.S. Secret Service and the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency, creating a unified front against transnational fraud operations. Operation Atlantic expands upon earlier programs designed to address widespread cryptocurrency theft.

This enforcement operation zeroes in on fraudulent tactics where cybercriminals manipulate victims into approving harmful blockchain transactions. After obtaining these permissions, perpetrators drain accounts rapidly, making fund recovery extremely challenging. Law enforcement will actively surveil questionable transactions and alert potential targets without delay.

Canadian Efforts Focus on Prevention and Recovery

The Ontario Securities Commission employs sophisticated analytical tools to identify compromised crypto wallets operating across various blockchain networks. Collaboration with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and regional law enforcement enables rapid freezing of fraudulent transactions. The program additionally assists victims in strengthening wallet security measures to avoid subsequent breaches.

Project Atlas, executed throughout 2024, successfully detected more than 2,000 vulnerable wallets spanning 14 nations. Law enforcement successfully froze $24 million in pilfered cryptocurrency and prevented an additional $70 million in fraudulent activity. These previous accomplishments shaped the international framework underlying Operation Atlantic.

Canadian investigative units depend on instantaneous surveillance and seamless coordination with overseas counterparts. Security analysts identify suspicious authorization requests and take action before complete account depletion. Blockchain forensic techniques enable authorities to trace and recover digital assets when feasible.

US and UK Drive International Enforcement

The U.S. Secret Service collaborates with the Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia to monitor approval phishing operations as they unfold. Intelligence sharing with Canadian and British authorities enables immediate disruption of active attacks. Investigators prioritize dismantling criminal organizations and retrieving stolen cryptocurrency holdings.

Within the United Kingdom, the National Crime Agency works alongside the Financial Conduct Authority to identify malicious activity targeting crypto wallets. They implement regulatory enforcement actions while providing guidance on digital asset protection. This partnership accelerates response capabilities against international fraud schemes.

Operation Atlantic emerges amid escalating worldwide losses from cryptocurrency scams, which totaled $14 billion in 2025. Criminal enterprises increasingly leverage social engineering tactics, artificial intelligence-generated materials, and phishing-as-a-service infrastructures. Authorities stress that approval phishing attacks continue posing significant dangers to cryptocurrency holders globally.

Operation Atlantic exemplifies a coordinated strategy among Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom to address cryptocurrency wallet theft. Through consolidated investigative capabilities and continuous monitoring systems, law enforcement agencies work to discourage criminal activity. The operation further underscores the expanding magnitude and complexity of international cryptocurrency fraud operations.
