PS5 Pro Officially Announced – Priced at €800, What Does It Offer?
During a “technical presentation,” Mark Cerny, the Lead Architect of the PlayStation 5, officially revealed and introduced the PlayStation 5 Pro. The new console is set to be released on 7th November 2024, with a price of €799.99 in this region.
Cerny explained that the aim is to narrow the gap between performance and graphical modes, meaning players can enjoy better visual quality while also experiencing higher frame rates.
More Powerful Hardware
This improvement is achieved primarily through a more powerful GPU with additional processing units and faster memory. As a result, the rendering speed is set to increase by 45%.
Another highlight is “Advanced Ray Tracing,” which has been optimised for faster calculations. The system will be two to three times quicker in this area compared to the original PlayStation 5.
Additionally, the PS5 Pro will feature AI-driven upscaling, known as PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution), enhancing the graphical experience even further.
The presentation showcased several comparisons between games running on current hardware and the PS5 Pro, demonstrating the enhancements.
Game Boost and Backward Compatibility
Another key feature is the “PS5 Pro Game Boost,” which will apply to more than 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 titles that will be playable on the PS5 Pro. Supported PS4 and PS5 games will benefit from either stabilised or enhanced performance. Depending on the game, players may also experience improved image quality or resolution.
The console will continue to support Wi-Fi 7, VRR, and 8K gaming.
