    Key Highlights

    • The Ethereum Foundation introduces a million-dollar funding initiative focused on security audits.
    • Approved applicants qualify for subsidies covering as much as 30% of their audit expenses.
    • Nethermind and Chainlink will participate in evaluating project applications each month.
    • Developers gain connections to over 20 security audit providers via the Areta platform.
    • This initiative complements the foundation’s previous Trillion-Dollar Security campaign.

The Ethereum Foundation has rolled out a substantial security funding program worth $1 million designed specifically for development teams building on the Ethereum network. Through this initiative, approved projects gain direct connections to more than 20 professional audit companies via Areta’s specialized marketplace platform.

This strategic initiative addresses a significant financial barrier facing emerging blockchain development teams. By reducing audit-related expenses, the program enables Ethereum projects to obtain professional security assessments more easily, promoting safer product launches and better-prepared deployments across the ecosystem.

Foundation creates streamlined pathway to professional auditors

The Security Subsidy Program developed by the Ethereum Foundation connects development teams with professional security firms through the Areta Market infrastructure. This extensive network encompasses recognized companies including Blocksec, Certora, Hacken, Immunefi, Quantstamp, and numerous additional providers.

Approved applicants become eligible for financial support reaching up to 30% of their total audit expenditures. The foundation plans to select new project groups monthly, allocating resources from the dedicated $1 million fund. This marketplace-based approach empowers teams with greater flexibility when selecting their preferred security partners.

According to statements from the Ethereum Foundation, professional security audits represent industry best practices, yet their high costs create barriers for numerous development teams. The organization noted, “Security audits are a best practice, yet expensive,” emphasizing that this subsidy initiative aims to democratize access to professional security reviews.

Foundation representatives emphasized that this program serves the broader objective of fortifying the entire Ethereum development landscape. It provides emerging teams with pathways to reputable audit firms without shouldering the complete financial burden independently.

Leading organizations contribute expertise to application screening

Chainlink and Nethermind have been enlisted to evaluate incoming applications for the monthly selection rounds. These organizations will perform technical assessments of prospective projects before subsidy approval decisions are finalized. This arrangement introduces an additional layer of expert evaluation into the qualification framework.

Selection criteria encompass technical quality, project viability, innovative elements, and the development team’s track record. Priority consideration goes to projects demonstrating authentic commitment to developing within the Ethereum ecosystem. Foundation officials stressed their preference for teams showing genuine long-term dedication to the network.

The foundation indicated that program support aligns with teams embracing CROPs principles—representing censorship resistance, open-source development, privacy protection, and robust security. These core values were formally designated as fundamental Ethereum principles by the foundation just last month.

Fin Boothroyd, serving as CEO of Areta Market, elaborated on the program’s organizational framework. He characterized it as “a joint initiative with top-tier audit providers” supported by a review committee featuring experts. This advisory group comprises professionals from organizations with extensive Ethereum ecosystem involvement.

Industry-wide emphasis on security investment intensifies

This newly announced subsidy represents an extension of Ethereum’s comprehensive security enhancement efforts throughout the previous year. During 2025, the foundation unveiled its “Trillion-Dollar Security” initiative aimed at elevating ecosystem-wide security standards. The current funding program establishes a practical audit support mechanism complementing that broader strategic vision.

Areta previously administered a comparable subsidy offering for development teams working on Solana. That predecessor program similarly utilized a $1 million budget to facilitate external security assessments. The Ethereum-focused program now adapts this proven framework for a broader spectrum of teams building on the network.

Security-related investment continues gaining momentum throughout the broader cryptocurrency sector. Aave Labs recently disclosed a $1.5 million audit initiative specifically targeting the Aave V4 protocol development. These developments underscore the industry’s sustained prioritization of comprehensive code review processes across digital asset infrastructure projects.
