    Key Highlights

    • Pi Network introduced its Testnet RPC server on April 8, 2026.
    • Developers can now access live blockchain information through the server.
    • Query-based smart contract interactions operate without requiring gas fees.
    • Transactions that modify blockchain state continue to incur standard fees.
    • Node operators have the option to deploy RPC servers for private or public applications.

Pi Network has introduced a Testnet RPC server designed specifically for developers building smart contracts and decentralized applications. This infrastructure upgrade provides a streamlined method for connecting applications directly to the Pi blockchain, facilitating testing procedures, data retrieval, and preparation for smart contract launches across the platform.

The platform made the announcement on April 8, 2026. The RPC server became operational on Testnet immediately, with potential Mainnet deployment scheduled for a later date. According to Pi Network, this development follows previous Node and protocol enhancements that were unveiled during the Pi Day 2026 celebration.

Enhanced Testnet infrastructure supports developer ecosystem growth

According to Pi Network’s announcement, the newly deployed RPC server functions as a bridge connecting applications with the underlying blockchain infrastructure. Through this interface, applications can transmit requests and obtain responses from the network. This architecture represents a standard approach in blockchain development that facilitates efficient application-network communication.

The platform connected this launch to its recent infrastructure improvements. Pi Mainnet transitioned to Protocol 20 during Pi Day 2026. Now, the network is advancing toward Protocol 21, as noted in the official statement. These protocol updates establish the foundational framework required for smart contract functionality.

Pi Network has released an RPC server, currently available on Testnet, supporting the development, testing, and future deployment of smart contracts within the Pi ecosystem.

According to Pi Network, the server accommodates two distinct categories of smart contract operations. The first category involves read-only queries that retrieve information without altering the blockchain’s state. These operations execute without gas fee requirements and deliver data rapidly.

The second category encompasses state-modifying transactions. These operations alter blockchain records and continue to require conventional transaction processing along with associated fees. This structure maintains write operations within established network protocols while enhancing accessibility to blockchain data.

Real-time blockchain access accelerates development workflows

The Testnet RPC server enables developers to create applications that rely on live blockchain information. Additionally, it provides teams with the ability to evaluate smart contract performance prior to broader implementation. This creates a secure, controlled space for preliminary development activities.

Pi Network indicated that developers can leverage the server to access account information, token balances, and application-specific data. These query capabilities prove valuable for wallet applications, monitoring dashboards, and server-side integrations. The absence of gas fees for read operations streamlines the testing process considerably.

The platform encouraged developers to experiment with the functionality through a publicly accessible endpoint. It provided an example request utilizing curl and the “getHealth” method. This demonstration confirms the server’s availability for immediate testing on Pi Testnet.

Pi Network noted, “Developers are encouraged to try it out.” The organization also clarified that Mainnet deployment will be contingent upon Testnet performance metrics and stability assessments. This indicates that broader availability will follow comprehensive network evaluation and reliability verification.

Infrastructure flexibility extends to independent node operators

The statement also outlined opportunities for node operators and service providers. Pi Network explained that these entities can establish their own RPC server infrastructure. Such servers can power proprietary products or offer public access for third-party developers.

This capability could enable organizations to manage network traffic and maintain service standards. It also provides enhanced flexibility for projects intending to develop solutions within the Pi ecosystem. Private RPC infrastructure typically benefits applications requiring consistent and direct node connectivity.

Pi Network positioned the launch as a component of comprehensive ecosystem expansion. The platform stated that the server can support frontend interfaces, backend systems, and smart contract experimentation. This positions it as an essential resource for developers creating blockchain-powered solutions.

The deployment emphasizes foundational infrastructure over end-user functionality. Nevertheless, it provides developers with a more defined pathway for building on Pi Testnet immediately. It also establishes groundwork for future Mainnet smart contract operations as network improvements advance.
